The music industry has been through some big changes since internet usage boomed. The normal channels of sales and marketing are simply no longer enough for musicians. Those who try to stick to traditional methods of promotion will find themselves being left out in the cold.
One of my clients is a musician with a vibrant past and a desire to leverage the web for promotion and distribution of his music. Through this series of articles, I’ll share with you the steps we take and the methods we have employed to fulfil his career endeavors.
First up … setting your objectives and aligning expectations
Session 1 – Setting objectives
This is the first step in the process because EVERYTHING is formed from the objectives.
We established 3 key objectives. This is a good amount to start with and they should be pretty high level and provide coverage across the gamut of the business model.
Session 2 – Aligning Expectations
In this step I trialled a new method I developed that very quickly identifies what your expectations are about meeting the objectives and then realigns the expectations to be conducive with ‘forward looking’ outcomes.
I’ll be speaking in much more detail about this process because it truly amazed us how quickly we moved some old, stale viewpoints into very inspired and creative ideas to move forward with.
“What you expect when you focus upon an objective (and the associated feeling) determines the power inherent within the actions you take”
More to come …
